Maldives participates for the first time in the South Asian Countries Trade Fair at Kunming, China
The 5th South Asian Countries Trade Fair which is being held in conjunction with the 20th China Import and Export Fair was officially opened today at Kunming, China.
A Maldives booth was featured for the first time this year at the South Asian Countries Trade Fair. The Government supported the participation of three Maldivian entrepreneurs who will be promoting authentic Maldivian products, covering handicrafts, indigenous food products to locally designed clothing.
Minister of Economic Development, Mr. Ahmed Mohamed, Ambassador of Maldives to Beijing, Mr. Mohamed Rasheed and other members of the Government delegation at Kunming, attended the opening ceremony of the events and visited the Maldives booth, and met with the Maldivian participants. The Fair will continue from 6th June to 10th June 2012.
The Government places a huge focus on facilitating the development and growth of the small and medium entrepreneurs of the country, and hopes to extend support in ensuring the participation of SME entrepreneurs of the country in similar fairs in the future. Other forms of government support focused to the SME sector include, targeted loan schemes, technical and capacity building services and facilitation in market access.
