Minister of Economic Development has today participated in the 7th Session of the China South Asia Business Forum being held at Kunming, China.

China-South Asia Business Forum is the first forum mechanism established for regional economic cooperation between Chinese and SAARC industrial and commercial circles in the context of ever-increasing mutual trust in politic affairs and continuous economic cooperation between China and South Asian countries. The Forum represents the common will of the industrial and commercial circles for strengthening cooperation and reaping mutual benefits in countries within the region, and is intended to provide an important platform for better communication and collaboration among the participants.

Minister of Economic Development, Mr. Ahmed Mohamed also addressed the forum at the inaugural session held today. In his speech, Minister noted the close relationship, both economically as well as politically, that the Maldives and China has been maintaining since 1981 and thanked the Government of China for the valuable grant as well as loan assistance that has been provided by China to the Maldives.

Minister also highlighted the open economic policy of the Maldives and urged China and the SAARC region, to consider Maldives as an investment destination in addition to a popular tourist destination.
