The Ministry of Economic Development (MED) oversees the issuance of Export Licenses and Import Licenses for Local investments, Companies and shops operated in islands that trade in imported goods. Import Licenses for shops in Male' and for personal items, as well as temporary Import Licenses released after the goods are brought to Maldives will be issued by Maldives Customs Services.

The Ministry also issues licenses for the import of liquor, pork and products of pork.
